چکیده

In the high temperature combustion atmosphere inside of aircraft turbines, currently used ceramic matrix composites require a protective environmental barrier coating (EBC) to mitigate corrosion turbine parts. Besides thermomechanical and thermochemical properties like matching thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) resistance against corrosive media, mechanical adhesion strength are also necessary for long lifetime EBC. present work, between an air plasma sprayed silicon bond coat vacuum ytterbium disilicate topcoat was aimed be enhanced by laser surface structuring Si coat. An increase in interface toughness assumed, since introduction structures would lead increased interlocking at rougher interface. The measured new testing method, which allows specific interfaces. results demonstrate clear from original coat/topcoat (8.6 J/m2) compared structured (14.7 J/m2). Observations crack propagation indicates that may have led strengthening upper area sintering. Furthermore, addition cohesive failure components, adhesive components can observed, could influenced determined toughness.

AN INVESTIGATION ON EFFECT OF BOND COAT REPLACEMENT ON HOT CORROSION PROPERTIES OF THERMAL BARRIER COATINGS

In the present study NiCrAlY bond coating layer was produced by electroplating against common atmospheric plasma spraying (APS). Both types of the bond coats were applied on IN738LC base metal then, the YSZ (ZrO2-8% Y2O3) thermal barrier top layer was coated by atmospheric plasma spray technique. Hot corrosion is one of the main destructive factors in thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) which come ...

Measuring fracture toughness of coatings using FIB-machined microbeams

D. Di Maio and S. G. Roberts Department of Materials, University of Oxford, UK keywords: toughness, coating, nanoindentation. Abstract Measuring the toughness of brittle coatings has always been a difficult task. Coatings are often too thin to easily prepare a freestanding sample of a defined geometry in order to use standard toughness measuring techniques. Using standard indentation techniques...

Failure Mechanisms Investigation in Thermal Barrier Coatings under Isothermal and Non-sothermal Fatigue Loadings using Design of Experiments

In this article, failure and fracture mechanisms in an aluminum alloy (which has been used in diesel internal combustion engines), with and without ceramic thermal barrier coatings, have been investigated under isothermal and non-isothermal fatigue loadings. In this research, the base material is an aluminum-silicon-magnesium alloy and the thermal barrier coating includes a metallic bond coat l...

Simplified method for determining fracture toughness of two dental ceramics.

This study compared the fracture toughness values (KIC), which were derived from simplified techniques: the indentation fracture (IF), the indentation strength (IS), and fractographic approach to that from a standard testing using surface cracks in flexure (SCF). Forty bar specimens, twenty IPS Empress(®) Esthetic and twenty IPS e.max(®)Ceram were prepared. Ten specimens in each material were t...
